In the wake of a recent de-escalation between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level strategic meeting at his official residence on Monday. The review session brought together senior ministers and top national security officials to assess the evolving security landscape and chart out the next course of action.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chairs a high-level security meeting with senior ministers, NSA Ajit Doval, CDS, and tri-service chiefs following the India-Pakistan ceasefire.

Attendees included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs — Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.

The gathering also saw the participation of key intelligence and diplomatic figures such as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka, and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Ravi Sinha.

This high-level consultation comes just 48 hours after India and Pakistan agreed to halt military operations, following days of intense cross-border attacks. The ceasefire understanding was reportedly brokered with indirect diplomatic involvement from the United States, after India carried out devastating precision strikes on 11 Pakistani airbases in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives.

In retaliation, Pakistan launched a barrage of drones and missiles targeting western India. However, these were effectively neutralized by Indian defenses. The Indian Air Force then launched a massive 90-minute counter-operation on May 7, targeting key Pakistani airbases and eliminating over 100 militants across nine terror hubs.

With both nations backing off from further escalation, a meeting of the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) is scheduled to further solidify the ceasefire terms and discuss confidence-building measures to maintain border peace.

During the meeting, PM Modi reiterated his earlier directive that any cross-border aggression should be met with a strong and immediate response. The government also took stock of civilian infrastructure preparedness, announcing the reopening of 32 airports that were temporarily closed due to heightened military activity.

Officials confirmed that no hostile incidents occurred on Sunday night or Monday morning along the Line of Control or the international border — a sign that the ceasefire understanding is holding for now.

As the situation stabilizes, the government is expected to monitor developments closely while continuing back-channel diplomatic communications to prevent further conflict.
