CJP ‘Chalo Sansad’ Protest Sparks Clashes Near Parliament; Tear Gas and Lathi Charge Used
High drama unfolded in the national capital on Monday as the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) 'Chalo Sansad' march led to clashes between protesters and security personnel near Parliament. Authorities used tear gas shells, lathi charges, and anti-riot measures after demonstrators attempted to cross security barricades in several parts of central Delhi.
The protest coincided with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, prompting heightened security across the Parliament complex and surrounding areas. Thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar before attempting to march toward Parliament, resulting in repeated confrontations with police.
The first major confrontation occurred near Jantar Mantar, where protesters reportedly tried to break through barricades. As tensions escalated, police responded with crowd-control measures, including tear gas and baton charges. Minor injuries were reported among both protesters and security personnel during the clashes.
CJP leaders claimed that party founder Abhijeet Dipke was detained by police during the demonstration, though authorities had not immediately issued an official statement on the detention.
Protests and police action were reported from multiple locations, including Rail Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, Constitution Club, Janpath, Connaught Place, and areas near the Reserve Bank of India. Security personnel prevented demonstrators from entering the high-security zone surrounding Parliament.
At Rail Bhawan and Shastri Bhawan, security forces intensified efforts to stop protesters from advancing by deploying tear gas and additional barricades. Police repeatedly appealed to demonstrators to disperse while maintaining a heavy presence around government buildings.
The protest also disrupted normal life in central Delhi. Traffic restrictions were imposed across several major roads, while authorities tightened security at nearby Delhi Metro stations. Some station gates were temporarily closed as a precaution, causing inconvenience to commuters.
To maintain law and order, Delhi Police deployed thousands of personnel along with paramilitary forces, rapid response teams, water cannons, and Vajra anti-riot vehicles. The Parliament complex and the Central Vista area remained under strict security throughout the day.
The CJP organized the march to demand reforms in the education sector and to seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.
Meanwhile, party leaders claimed that the Centre had expressed willingness to hold discussions regarding their demands. However, there was no official confirmation from the Union government about any proposed talks.
